Frequently Asked Questions
What do the max gr indicated on our surf rods mean?
They indicate the maximum weight that can be cast in grams with fishing casts (unless otherwise specified). Pendulum casts and angled ground casts are not considered fishing casts. The optimal weight (lead weight with which the maximum range is achieved) may or may not coincide with the maximum grams indicated.
What does the "Action" number on surf rods mean?
The action of one of our rods is indicated by a number ranging from 0 to 1, where 0 means a parabolic rod and 1 means a perfectly tip action rod. A rod with a 0.7 action is therefore more tip action than a rod with a 0.5 action.
Why don't we list the total weight on many of our rods?
The overall weight of the rod is misleading in the case of telescopic rods.
In fact, one might think that a rod weighing 100g (measured on a scale) is, once stretched, lighter than a rod weighing 120g.
This is very often not true.
The truly important factor is the balance in the hand once all the telescopic elements are extended. Greater weight on the stock (through larger diameters or thicknesses) certainly leads to better balance, better cast management, and a more stable response to vibrations. At Italcanna, this balancing process has always been an important factor, so we invite you to touch one of our products for your own personal evaluation.
Can I be sure of always finding identical products?
Italcanna cannot guarantee perfect correspondence between products from different batches
The reasons can be varied, often involving small production improvements, but very often it happens that certain substances, colors, or types of materials become unavailable due to new environmental regulations, as has been the case with lead, chromium, or certain resins. Furthermore, many of our suppliers, such as Fuji, Aftco, Stuart, and others, occasionally introduce variations to their products.
Furthermore, as you well know, ITalcanna keeps its products fresh for many years, ensuring you'll always find your model and any spare parts you may need. However, a perfect aesthetic or material match cannot be guaranteed under any circumstances.
Additional usage notes for tip action or carbon fiber rods
Carbon fiber has been popular in the world of fishing for years, and new models are becoming thinner and lighter. However, as is logical, increasingly advanced and technical fibers require a little more knowledge and attention than in the past.
In fact, carbon fiber has, by its nature, half the elongation of traditional fiberglass.
For this reason, carbon fiber rods, but also fiberglass rods with highly sensitive tip actions, do not tolerate excessive and localized curvatures.
We therefore ask you to read the following supplementary notes for correct use: Notes on use of tip action rods
Rod length tolerances
All our rods are subject to length tolerances. These tolerances are due to uncontrollable variations in resin and fiber percentages, which result in differences in thickness and therefore in the overall length of the rod. A greater number of joints will lead to greater overall tolerances. This obviously does not affect the functionality or quality of the rod.
